Why is ensemble playing important? Music goes where words cannot!

  • * Listening to other musicians, playing in time, playing in sync, learning to adapt as the vibe of the music or group changes.   Music gets better when we play together!!
  • * Being part of a larger group, team skills, development non-verbal communication skills and connection.
  • * Reinforces, with practical application, what we learn in our lessons.
  • * Organisational skills and personal responsibility.
  • * Exploring music you may not have played as a soloist.
  • Our ensemble is for all ages, all stages, and anywhere ... in the world ... we mostly are  Auckland, NZ based (some attend in person and some on Zoom) but also have players from Waihi, Otorohanga, Dunedin, Thames, Tauranga, Wellington, Murray River (Australia) and London!  Get in touch if you want to join in with us!
  • Note: if you intend to perform with Forest of Harps, you need to be able to attend the in person rehearsals.

Auckland Harp Orchestra 2013-2021

The Auckland Harp Orchestra meets three times a term to rehearse ensemble music for different events. Harpists of grade 3 and above are welcome to join us.
Annually we play at a retirement village (generally one where we know a resident!), at any harp events (100 Harps, Harp Retreat) and we also enjoy preparing a range of carols to play together at Harp in the Park (our end of year harp gathering!).

This was a huge success!! A fantastic team of 19 harpists worked really hard to pull this very diverse concert together.
Featuring the Auckland Harp Orchestra, The Cromarty Suite (played by the GT harpers) Gliss Harp Trio and Anna & Harry, plus the debut of the "Three Dances of the Ocean, Sky and Forest " by Michelle Velvin - complete with dancers, Joshua, Seina and Beth!
