New Tunes Group Lesson

New Tunes Group Lesson
The working title for this group lesson was "learning new tunes by ear, learning how to arrange your own version of a tune, and bringing it back to the class to play for us and show us all how clever you are"   It sums up the wants of some of my students to actively start learning tunes without the music, and my feelings that we should all be able to put together arrangements that we can play ourselves, and have a knowledge of the theory that underlies our music.
We will be starting with super easy and memorable tunes - grade one level and above welcome!
(Other members of the family who can play an instrument are also welcome to join us with their instrument)

Lesson dates:TBC

"Learning by Ear" verses "Monkey See, Monkey Do"   we won't really be learning by ear (hopefully we will move on to that in due time) .... learning by ear is what happens after you hear a tune many times, and can play it without stopping to think about where it is going or what notes you are playing - you just know it  - you could probably do this with many tunes you already know well.   I consider what I do as  "Monkey See, Monkey Do"  .... me ... the head Monkey plays in small chunks, calling out fingerings and other hints and the wee monkeys in the class copy ... with plenty of repetition, the tune, rhythm, fingering and phrasing becomes apparent, and we back this up with sheet music to take home.
