Harp (Cake) and Tea
Group lessons for adults - week day mornings - 45 minutes (allow an hour:-)
No prior musical experience needed
Students will be grouped accordingly if they have musical experience or not.
What's involved?
Working with groups of 4-6 adult students, we will work through a curriculum of beginner harp music and technique, and if required, beginner music theory also, accompanied by a hot drink and something yummy!
Lesson one includes:
Learning to tune your harp, identifying and naming the strings, what to do with our fingers? two little tunes, explaining music jargon, and a bit of music theory. We'll also finish each lesson off with a bit of harp chat - history of harps, harpists, harp music, harp makers, and some resources to further your self directed learning about all things harp.
Subsequent lessons will start with a quick revisit of the previous lesson, and how we all coped with our harping through the week. Optional theory homework is available.
The benefits of learning in a group situation include sharing information, playing in parts, listening to another student's perspective or performance, and socialising with harpists of similar mind and ability. Outside of the lesson, you are more than welcome to chat within the group (we'll set up a platform we can all access for getting more info) and practise with other students.
Costs involved:
The Harp and Tea bundle $600
Your own cardboard harp (to keep!!)
10x 45 min group harp lessons
Group Lessons $250
10x 45 min group harp lessons only level 1 & 2 (own harp required)
10x 45 min group harp lessons for the musically experienced (own harp/hire harp required)
For subsequent group lesson or individual lessons, your cardboard harp will be adequate to learn on for around a year. After this point, I will help guide you to buying a harp that will suit you.
When?
Lessons fall approximately into the same shape as the primary/secondary school terms (longer break over summer) and dates will be advised at the start of each course. Next course starting the week of Monday May 3rd for 10 weeks to the first week of July.
Where?
Your place or mine? Contact me if you wish to join a ready established class at the Harp Events Studio in Blockhouse Bay, Auckland, or if you have a group at your church, retirement village or other group, we can talk about me coming out to work with you at your venue (you'd have to make the tea!!)
In case of illness or lockdown (or any other as yet unforeseen situation)
We will have a class online - you will be sent a link for the class if you are unwell (and give me notice) or if we are in isolation. Have a read of the lessons online tab as we've had plenty of opportunities in 2020 to get our online lessons honed to perfection.

Each group has chosen how they prefer to communicate for their group chat - email, website, whats app, Facebook, hangouts, so if your group is not in the place you thought it might be... please ask for a link.
