Carols at 5
Here we go..... a little bit of lockdown fun!
So it seems we might be physically distancing for a little longer, and I thought…. maybe we can get back onto the zoom rehearsal band wagon and make our way through a few Christmas carols and songs, with me leading the way.
One way to keep it interesting is to play duets – it sounds like it would be hard, but you can either play the same part as me, in unison, or the other part, so you are playing a duet with me. You will be muted, so you can hear me (get your headphones ready) and yourself, but no-one else on the call.
Note – this is for all levels – as a musician we need to be adaptable – join in where we can, listen to learn, and play the whole piece with both hands tied behind your back, while driving a forklift! Even if you can only play the first note in each bar, that is fine – it’s one note a bar more than those who didn’t play at all!!!
When you register for the first session, you will get access to full duo audio files, and the tune sheet for the Ten Carols book (for beginners)
We’re going to use the "Ten Carols for Two Harps" for the duet arrangements, and the Sylvia Woods “50 Carols for Harps”
If you don’t have it already, you can buy this "Ten Carols for Two Harps" below. The songs are arranged at a Grade 1/2/3 level.

And the “50 Carols for Harps” book is a must-have book…. If you don’t have it you can order it from Sylvia Woods Harp Center, as a pdf download, and it will arrive in your inbox immediately!
We’ll cover one tune from each book (two tunes in total, giving a good run through for each one, at least twice each part, then a bit of time to go over any bits that people find tricky) in each 30 minute zoom meeting, and anyone who wants to can stick around for a chat afterwards. We’ll record it too, so you can replay it – tho you will only hear my part and see lots of gorgeous harps on the screen – it won’t be as interactive as the Zoom Room Harp Chats!
Two sessions a week – both 5pm – Monday and Thursday evenings- hopefully harpists can jiggle their timetables to fit one or both sessions in. You don't need to have attended any of the previous sessions ... they are all stand alone!
